Series Title: Rescue: The Glory of God in Exodus

Text: Exodus 20:8-11

Title: Kingdom Rules: Preparing For Glory!

Big Idea: We gather every Lord’s Day in preparation for our eternal rest and in order to preview our eternal rest.  

1. What is the sabbath and where does it come from?

The purpose of the Sabbath was to confess the Lord as Creator and to commit or consecrate oneself to Him.  

2. A Biblical-Theological Survey of Sabbath – How the Sabbath relates to Jesus?

The Sabbath signified God’s Kingship and the King’s desire to dwell with His Kingdom people.  

The Sabbath Pattern in Scripture: God conquers, creates, and dwells with His people in rest.

  • Eden
  • Canaan
  • Jesus
  • New Heaven and New Earth 

Jesus, the Messiah and God-in-the-flesh, has come to bring to fulfillment the true meaning of the Sabbath—to lead a redeemed people into God’s Sabbath rest.  To provide rest from the greater enemies of sin, death, and Satan.

3. What does the fourth commandment mean for God’s Kingdom people today?  

A. Holy ___________ – Remembering to regularly worship with the body of Christ.

B. Holy ______ – Remembering to trust the Lord for our daily provision.  

C. Holy _____ – Remembering to rest in the finished work of Jesus.

D. Holy _______ – Remembering to hope in the eternal rest of glory.

1. How can you do a better job of honoring the Lord’s Day?

2. Of the four “Sabbath principles” mentioned, where do you need to devote more of your time and focus?  

3. How are you preparing for and previewing glory with the local church?  How can you grow here?
