Big Idea: Behold the One who is most worthy and gives the Spirit.

Application: 

How does beholding Jesus aid us in our Christian walk in day-to-day life?

  • There is no killing _____ and no _____________ without beholding Jesus.

Discussion Questions:

1. What’s significant about how our passage is framed (compare vs. 29 with vs. 34)?

2. Why does John emphasize “sight” and “witness” in our passage and how does this fit with the overall message of John’s gospel?

3. What response is John the Baptist calling for in vs. 29 when he says, “Behold, the Lamb of God”?

4. What are some of the reasons John the Baptist gives for beholding Jesus?  What do these particular titles teach us about the identity and mission of Jesus?

5. Who are the witnesses for Jesus in our passage?  What stands out about the character of these witnesses, and how does this serve to validate their message?

6. What does the fact that Jesus will give the Spirit teach us both about His identity and the time surrounding His coming?  Use the Old Testament to support your answers.

Application:

1. How is beholding Jesus related to killi ng sin and becoming more like Him?  How does this work?  How can you grow here?

2. How does what we learned about Jesus from our passage help us to put sin to death in our lives?  

3. How might you encourage one believer based on what you learned from our passage?

2. What does the phrase, “who takes away the sin of the world” teach us about Jesus’ mission?  What does it mean for the church?
