- Why does John associate the events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion with the fulfillment of Scripture? How does this relate to the overall purpose of John’s gospel? See John 20:30-31.
- In what ways did Jesus fulfill Psalm 22:18 (see vs. 24) and Psalm 69:19-21 (see vs. 28)?
- What is the significance of the mention of the inscription on the Cross being written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek?
- What is the meaning of Jesus’ words in vv. 26-27? What does this teach us about Jesus? What does it teach us about the Cross?
- What does Jesus mean in vs. 30 when He says, “It is finished”?
- Where else in John’s gospel do we see the connection between the Cross and Jesus’ kingship? Why does this connection appear strange to the world?
